Keeping the Beacon Burning Brightly

June 15, 2026

Summer at Baltimore County Public Library is so much more than a season—it’s a time when our libraries become vibrant hubs of discovery, nourishment, creativity and connection for the entire community.

Across our 19 branches, and through outreach from our mobile fleet, the library is enriching lives in our community every day. Children and families sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge, where books and programming unlock imagination, learning and fun. Registration is open now! Young people who rely on school meals can access free lunches at participating branches, helping fill an important gap while school is out. Our youngest readers continue their journey through 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a year-round early literacy program that celebrates children who reach the incredible milestone of 1,000 books read with a medal they can proudly wear as a symbol of achievement.

And enrichment at the library doesn’t stop with children.

The Foundation is proud to support experiences for adults that spark joy, curiosity and community—programs like Bibliotastic Book Fair, a nostalgic celebration inspired by the Scholastic Book Fairs many of us remember with excitement, and The Dopamine Boost, a feel-good fair for grownups featuring uplifting experiences designed to elevate mood, inspire connection and bring a little more delight into daily life.

Your gift can help create opportunities for everyone this summer—encouraging literacy, exploration and a lifelong love of learning at every age.

Please consider making a gift today at a level that is meaningful to you:

$250 — Helps provide free books for every child who registers for the Summer Reading Challenge
$500 — Pays for one summer presenter for an engaging library program
$750 — Purchases 250 medals for children who complete the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge
$1,000 — Provides crucial Bilingual Books and Research Bags, helping families access learning resources in the languages they speak at home
$2,500 — Makes multicultural programming available across the system, enriching our communities through diverse stories, traditions, and experiences

Every gift makes a difference. Every dollar helps the library remain a place where children can grow, families can thrive and adults can continue learning, connecting and discovering something new.

And if you’re unable to make a financial gift today, there is another powerful way you can support Baltimore County Public Library: visit your nearest branch and get a library card—and encourage your friends and family to sign up, too. Then use it. Often. Join our book clubs, go to programs, attend our author events. The number of library cardholders, program attendance, and circulation activity all directly affect library funding. If the library is important to you, showing that support through active use—whether in person or using our virtual branchhelps strengthen its future.

Whether you give, sign up, check out books, attend programs or spread the word, your support matters.

Together, we can make this a summer filled with opportunity, enrichment and joy for everyone in Baltimore County.
