Last year, over 700,000 people participated in Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Disclaimer: Anyone who donates or pledges $25 or more to Foundation for BCPL on Tuesday, November 29 between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. will be entered to win a Storyville party. Party must take place at Storyville between the times of 10 a.m. and noon on a Sunday, date to be mutually agreed upon between winner and BCPL. Party must be for a child aged 5 or under. BCPL will provide the space only – refreshments to be provided by the winner. Storyville locations are in the Rosedale and Woodlawn branches of BCPL. You can also participate by posting an #UNselfie, or the selfless selfie, on Giving Tuesday as a powerful way to show how you are giving and why giving is important to you. Take a “selfie” with a caption (or have it on a card in the picture) explaining how or why you and/or your friends are “giving” this year. Always use the hashtags #UNselfie, #GivingTuesday and #iSupportBCPL. Post it to Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter and share with friends!
